Hardware Compatibility FAQ

  • Are Digi's PCI adapters compatible with 64 bit PCI slots?
Digi adapters, though they are 32 bit, are compatible with 64 bit PCI slots.  The advanced 64 bit slots are backwards compatible so that 32 bit PCI adapters will function in the newer slots.

    For more information go to:
    http://www.tyan.com/products/html/white_paper.html

  • Are Digi's PCI adapters compatible with PCI_X slots?
Digi adapters, though they are 32 bit, are compatible with PCI-X slots.  Although most major system manufacturers are shipping systems with several PCI-X PCI slots, there usually is at least one 32bit PCI slot available.  It is recommended to use the 32bit slot because Installing a 32bit adapter in a PCI-X PCI slot, which allows bus speeds of up to 533 MHz, will result in every adapter on that bus operating at 33 MHz.  This will have a substantial impact on the performance of any faster PCI adapters.

  • Which adapters can be used in a 3.3 and 5 volt slot?
Most of Digi's PCI adapters will function in a universal PCI slot which supports 3.3 and 5 volts. These include the: · AccelePort C/X · AccelePort RAS · AccelePort Xem · AccelePort Xp · AccelePort Xr (newer adapters with LSI chips, NOT the older adapters with the PLX chips) · AccelePort Xr rs422 · AccelePort Xr 920 · DataFire SYNC 2000, which are 5 volt only.
